TAYO'S ROOM

A loft bed, desk and storage units built along three walls.

The cabinets and shelving units we built along the perimeter of this room actually made the room feel much larger, rather than smaller, because it allowed the child to organize his belongings so well.

As you enter the room, there is a narrow hallway where we placed a cabinet of shallow shelves that are perfect for displaying the child’s toy collections, and also don’t block light from entering the narrow space.

The color accents we used to personalize the space are applied only to pieces that are removable to accommodate changing tastes. We know from our many years of experience that keeping to a more natural palette allows the furniture to age well. Kids don’t outgrow it.

For these pieces, we used a combination of birch plywood and bamboo.

Many of the components of this room are designed to grow with the child. The desk currently sits low to the ground to allow the child to work comfortably. As he grows, it can be easily raised by adding the missing bases to the cabinets below the desktop.
