-How much do you charge your consultations?
I charge $300 in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I go to my clients homes, take measurements and photographs, discuss their needs and ideally meet with the kids too. Later in my studio I draw up a scaled floor plan and some sketches to illustrate the proposal. I also produce a detailed cost estimate. The consultation fee gets credited towards any purchases of over $5000 made within 6 months of the consultation.
-How long does it take to get a custom loft bed built?
Typically the lead times are between 6 and 8 weeks for a singe item like a loft bed and 8 to 12 weeks for a full room.
-Do you install?
Yes, I install the furniture with my own crew. We have insurance and will forward our certificates to the building when requested.
-Do you have a showroom?
Yes, we are in Red Hook, right on the waterfront and very close to Fairway. It's easier to drive or take a car service since we are not very close from the subway. The closest stop is Smith-9th Street on the F train. From there you can take a bus that goes to Red Hook and it's a 15 minute ride all the way to the last stop.
-What are your showroom hours?
We are here Monday through Friday 9 to 7 and Saturdays 11 to 6 but it's always better to email or call for an appointment to be sure I'm here.
-What guarantee you can give on your furniture?
I guarantee my work for 15 years. I've been doing the same type of furniture and with the same materials for about 18 years so I get to see how strong my furniture is and how well it ages. I am also setting up a "used" section in the website for clients who want to re sell their furniture once their kids grow out of it.
-Why you design children's furniture?
It is what gives me the most creative freedom. I can design exactly what I like and what I consider good for children. It can be absolutely simple but still have personality. Designing children's furniture I never follow trends or styles. It is always the genuine result of "making" good furniture, furniture that will last.
Thanks,
Roberto Gil
