Sophia and Sean share our twin over full bunk bed design in this bright and playful space. We built along the perimeter of the room to maximize work and storage space, while maintaining the overall impression of spaciousness.
The bed itself is packed with storage, which we incorporated into the lower bunk, as well as the stairs that provide access to the upper bunk. Smooth circular cut-outs line the stairs and serve as grips to ensure that both child and parent can access the top bunk safely. A cut-out in the upper bunk also allows light from the window to permeate the space.
We also tucked an extensive storage system into the space between the bed and closet, which features abundant drawers, cabinets and counter space. The height matches that of the bed so that the units appear merged.
Along the wall opposite the bed we installed a highly modular desk and cabinet. The desk’s pencil drawer and concealed cabinets provide substantial storage space, and adjacent cabinets do their part by featuring deep drawers and loads of open shelving, ideal for books. The three units are detachable so they can easily be repositioned into a different configuration or moved should the family relocate to a new home.
